Need an AP recommendation (or tweak to what I already have)

I am trying to improve the speed and relability (and security) of my home network. I have my xDSL modem (Arris 5268AC) located in my living room, where I also have our TV, our personal cloud/external HDD, and a couple other devices located. I ran Cat 6 cable to the master bedroom, where I have my old Netgear R6200 router, set up in AP mode, repeating to the 5ghz band of my network. Of course both boxes have the same SSID’s and settings so I only see one network. I then have my bedroom TV and a couple other devices connected to the R6200.The problem is that while the R6200 has an AP and bridge mode, its not really designed for them. For example, I’ve only gotten it to act as a repeater for the 5ghz band, not the 2.4. I’ve also struggled because then the 2.4 band on the R6200 wants to still be available, and thus with no security. And when I’m carrying a mobile device into that room, and it hands off from the main signal to the one in the back of the house, it will disconnect for a minute or two.Am I missing something in my R6200 setup? Or would I be better served to get a dual band AP for that end of the house, and then a 10/100/1000 switch to connect everything devices I have at that end of the house?Thanks in advance.
